Maintaining Compliance and Reaccreditation
Since 1993, the Camrose Police Service (CPS) has been an Accredited Police agency. Through the process of obtaining accreditation CPS has received the following awards which have been set out by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA): Flagship Agency Status, Meritorious Status, and Exemplary Status.
Throughout these years and in between the Assessments, personnel of the police service strive to maintain the compliance status of each of the over 480 Standards. This is to ensure the Camrose Police Service is living by the letter and spirit of the standards.
In maintaining these high law enforcement standards, CPS has continued to:
- strengthen crime prevention programs
- formalize essential management procedures
- establish fair and nondiscriminatory personnel practices
- improve service-delivery
- solidify interagency cooperation and coordination and
- enhance citizen and staff confidence
CPS actively participates in CALEA by having a certified Accreditation Assessor as part of our staff. The expertise and experience gained by this has afforded the CPS to have the best practices in law enforcement.
CPS is and has been a member of the Canadian Police Accreditation Coalition (CANPAC) since its inception. Being one of the founding members, an executive position is held by the CPS. Within CANPAC, all Canadian agencies have the opportunity to discuss the CALEA process and to make this process Canadian friendly.
