Minimum Hiring Criteria

The hiring process for experienced officers is an accelerated process with different steps than the recruit hiring process as outlined below. If you have received your recruit training through a recognized training program it will not be necessary to repeat this process.   • Age: At least 18 years old
  • Education: Alberta Grade 12 or equivalent (Certificate Required)
  • Citizenship: Canadian citizen, landed immigrant status or permanent resident
  • Driving History: Valid Class 5 (non GDL) Driver’s License and driver’s abstract dated within one month of application. More than five (5) demerit points disqualifies applicant.
  • Criminal History: Applicants shall not have a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted (proof of pardon required). Applicants shall not have any criminal charges before the courts and no criminal activity within the last three years.
  • Vision: Meet the minimum vision requirements approved by the Alberta Solicitor General and Public Security. Applicants must submit a vision report (Included in Employment application along with standards).  For applicants who have had corrective eye surgery, the Supplemental Vision Form must also be completed.
  • Hearing: Meet the minimum hearing requirements approved by the Alberta Solicitor General and Public Security. Applicants must submit a hearing report (Included in Employment application along with standards)
  • Medical Clearance: Applicants must obtain medical clearance from a physician to participate in physical abilities/fitness evaluation. Below is a link to the medical self-assessment form. We encourage its use to determine your medical status prior to applying.
  • Credit History: Strong credit rating and minimum one year clear of discharge date from a bankruptcy.
